21. LINSUM KAWAI

Explore the unique Linsum Kawai Geosite, a remarkable area characterized by sharp formations of sedimentary rocks, specifically quartz sandstone and mudstone. These rocks, ranging from fine to coarse-grained and displaying a distinctive white-green color, are arranged in parallel layers with thicknesses varying from 2 to 40 cm.

The physical changes in the Sharp Formation are evident in the rock's compactness and the numerous quartz veins visible in the outcrops surrounding the Linsum Kawai geosite. These transformations result from a metamorphic process triggered by the intrusion of granite rocks, which penetrated the previously deposited sedimentary layers (Kelapa Kampit Formation & Sharp Formation) during the Paleozoic era (Permian-Carboniferous), shaping its tectonic history.

The area's unique morphology, featuring hilly terrain and excellent kerangas forest vegetation, makes it ideal for local protection zones. This preservation effort is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the watershed region, ensuring the conservation of this geologically and ecologically significant site.
