18. Tanjung rusa geosite

new geosite in the southern part of Belitong

Typically, the natural terrain at Tanjung Rusa is shaped by the Adamelite Baginda formation, a collection of Mesozoic intrusive flysch rocks originating from the Jurassic period (160-208 million years ago). The distinctive features of these Adamelite rocks contribute a singular and captivating charm to the surroundings, rendering the location ideal for coastal and historical geological.

BGMB is currently working to develop the Tanjung Rusa Geosite using a geosite development model oriented towards local knowledge. One aspect of the local knowledge they aim to develop is the harvesting of forest honey using a smoking method that utilizes concoctions made from the surrounding forest plants.

Additionally, local knowledge in crafting handicrafts is also being developed as an effort to enhance the sustainable economy of the local community.

Tanjung Rusa Geosite situated in southern part of Belitong is a critical area for mangrove conservation efforts. These efforts focus on protecting and restoring mangrove ecosystems, which are vital for coastal protection, biodiversity, and local livelihoods. Conservation initiatives include reforestation projects, community engagement programs, and the establishment of protected areas to prevent illegal logging and land conversion.
